Language Learning Goal Tracker for iPhone

Track language study sessions without Duolingo-style streak pressure. Log each session, build toward your target, and skip the reset anxiety. Free to download.

Duolingo streaks are famous for the anxiety they create. You've probably felt it — that pull to open the app at 11:45pm just to protect a number that has nothing to do with how much Spanish you actually know. Miss one day: streak gone. Every session you logged before it: invisible.

The streak model makes sense for Duolingo's engagement goals. It keeps you opening the app. But it doesn't measure language learning. A person who does 5 deep study sessions one week and none the next has done more real learning than someone who taps one lesson per day to keep a flame alive.

Language learning goals measured in sessions are about showing up for real practice — conversation sessions, grammar drills, listening exercises. The count of genuine sessions reflects the investment. The daily streak doesn't.

A session tracker should show 60 of 150 sessions. Whether those 60 came in daily bursts or intensive weekly blocks, they represent the same 60 units of effort.

Three study sessions per week reaches 150 sessions in a year. Daily sessions reach 365 in a year.

Why language study sessions is a milestone goal

A session-count goal for language learning measures how often you showed up, not the streak. Whether you did 5 sessions one week and 1 the next, the total reflects the effort invested. Duolingo streaks are a known source of anxiety because one missed day erases weeks of counting.

The problem with streak trackers for language study sessions

One missed day with a language app resets the streak to zero. The 60 sessions completed before the break are gone from the visible count. Users who felt proud of 60 sessions now see a 0.

What the math looks like

Three sessions per week reaches 150 sessions in a year. A vacation week with zero sessions costs nothing from the accumulated total.
